ABOUT

/ AFIA

The African Financial Intermediaries (AFIA) distinguishes itself by representing and articulating the critical and unique views and aspirations of long and short term Insurance Sector Financial Intermediaries based on many years of its leadership experience. AFIA has a rich and well-established history based on its leadership collective business skills, academic achievements and participation in the establishment and operations of some of the major associations and businesses in the insurance industry. AFIA leadership played a key role in the negotiations of the current FAIS bill as part of the collective interest group along National Treasury and FSB now FSCA.

AFIA’s establishment was primarily brought about by the lack of legitimate and true transformative engagement agenda with African Intermediaries which is a major cause of a seriously aging intermediary population with no fresh blood attraction to the industry due to no successful role models in economic terms to look up to although playing a pivotal financial education and experience role to the more than 80% part of the population, which is totally misaligned to the new sustainable Economic, Political and Social imperatives of South Africa as gateway to the broader African continent. AFIA aims to roll out a national plan of action through the country’s 9 Provinces. AFIA will continue holding top level discussions with key role players like Product underwriters, Public and Private sector lobbying for our members big business opportunities and equity participation, constructively engage other Intermediaries Associations across the colour lines, regulatory bodies such as FSCA and others.

We aim to give substance to the voice expressing the views of our members, providing them with on-going upskilling and academic qualifications opportunities with continual membership recruitment drive whilst engaging in strategic collaborations with other associations. We anticipate that the organization will go through a number of developmental phases leading to meeting our members’ needs and aspirations. We require strategic partners to help with the organization’s infrastructure building including but not limited to: Offices, Office personnel and running expenses for sustainability and Growth.
