AFIA PROGRAMMES AND PROJECTS

OUR OPERATIONS ARE FOCUSSED ON FOUR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES:
BUSINESS, MEMBERSHIP, ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION.

/ BUSINESS

We believe that inclusive radical economic transformation is non-negotiable business imperative which among others talk to the participation of black professionals to big business deals including equity preference. Black financial intermediaries are well quali ed and skilled to assume such responsibilities but continue to be structurally marginalized through tight gate keeping, anti-competitive behavior by big institutions and other varied excuses key being the un-readiness and need for perpetual training without opportunities to apply the training on. AFIA’s aims and objectives are to help big business in our sector which in the main in more than two decades post democracy, is still defined by colour instead of an African Ubuntu spirit ‘‘I am because you are’’ to fast track legitimate transformation resulting in an equitable and peaceful co-existing society. We will roll out programs and continue to drive and strive for our members on the job-learning in building businesses and personnel capacity while identifying skills gaps for proper training interventions programs to eradicate the wrong perception that African financial practices remain small due to lack of training and unprofessionalism whereas they are structurally forced to play on the unsustainable business margins. We will avail ourselves as AFIA leadership to collaboration initiatives with other progressive formations to facilitate equity transactions and mutually beneficial business ventures among our members, thereby help redress and halt the perpetuation of the past degrading and unsustainable stereotypes among our members.

/ MEMBERSHIP

AFIA will represent the aspirations of African financial Intermediaries.

Membership of AFIA is open to all practising financial planners, Broker Consultants and Corporate members of all racial backgrounds. Our members are only required to demonstrate commitment to the inclusive economic transformation of the Black financial intermediaries. AFIA believes that to make a positive impact on the face of the South African financial planning sector we must have a vibrant, passionate and active membership. We will at all times run campaigns to recruit membership both individual and corporate who identify themselves as African and willing to participate objectively and realistically to the agenda of transforming our economy to bring about equilibrium to the marginalised masses so that life has meaning to all who live under the warm and beautiful skies of the African continent. Working together we can massively increase the size of the cake for all to share than shrinking it, thereby realise the Nelson Mandela dream of a united nation in service to our country and continent.
We already have a vibrant plan to roll-out a national programme for the recruitment of members.

/ EDUCATION

We will continually host ongoing educational workshops and seminars.

In order for us to fully meet our members’ educational and skills development needs, a thorough skills audit of our members will be conducted to enable us to develop and implement appropriate programmes to satisfy our member’s requirements. Our continuous education and skills development initiatives will be based on this credible skills audit. A key immediate objective in the member Education and Skills development is partnering with INSETA and Institutions of higher learning. The ultimate end goal is our Academy establishment to meet the knowledge skills and training needs of our members. The Academy will also serve an entry point to new practitioners to enter the ¬financial planning profession. The on-going educational programme will include mentoring, coaching and strategic support to members.

/ ADVOCACY

We will continually engage relevant stakeholders such as regulatory authorities, government, private sector, industry bodies including other representative organizations such as industry intermediaries’ bodies.
We will engage and present our members views on all matters that affect the industry such as new legislation (regulations), industry restructuring etc. We have over the years together with other industry bodies presented our submissions to the National Treasury ,FSCA on our views in respect of proposed changes including the current commission’s regime. We recently made joint submissions with FIA to SCOF the industry changes inter alia: RDR, recognised as ASISA, INSETA etc. stakeholders.
